First Death Anniversary Memorial of Luna Shamsuddoha
On February 17, 2022, on the occasion of the first death anniversary of Luna Shamsuddoha, founder of the IT company Dohatech New Media and founder president of BWIT, she was remembered at a special commemorative meeting titled ‘Luna Shamsuddoha Memorial’ at BASIS Auditorium, Dhaka. Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), Bangladesh Women in IT (BWIT) and Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) jointly organized this special commemoration.
At the memorial, BWIT President Dr. Lafifa Jamal said that women students and women entrepreneurs should be encouraged by giving away various awards in the name of Luna Shamsuddohar. She also said that Luna Shmsuddoha was an iconic women and role model not only for the women but also for all the IT professionals. In this event, president of BWIT announced scholarships for the meritorious but poor students studying in STEM subject in the name of Luna Shamsuddhoa.
Apart from this, BASIS President Russell T. Ahmed, BDOSN General Secretary Munir Hasan and different public and private sector people also remembered him in this ceremony. The entire memorial was conducted by Chief Executive Officer of BdOSN and Vice President of BWIT Kaniz Fatema.
BASIS President informs in this memorial that this year’s International Women’s Day on March 8, will be dedicated to Luna Shamsuddoha and from this year, a special award will be given in her name to eminent women entrepreneurs and professionals on annual basis in the name of Luna Shamsuddoha and a lab at BITM will be named for Luna Shamsuddoha. In addition to this, BDOSN and The Bangladesh Robot Olympiad Committee also shares their plans for Luna Shamsuddhoa.
Luna Shamsuddoha was awarded the Bangladesh Business Award in 2017 for her immense contribution to Bangladesh’s economy and she also received Ananya Top Ten awards for her involvement in the software industry. She received the Honorary Leadership Award 2013 from the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network (GWIIN) in Stockholm, Sweden for her significant contribution as a woman leader. She is also well-known in various global forums of technology, e-governance and women’s economic participation and empowerment.
Luna Shamsuddoha holds a master’s degree in International Relations from Dhaka University. She began her career as a consultant in 1978 and started the business as a managing partner of the Executive Center in 1985. Prior to this, she worked as an English Language teacher at the British Council Language Resource Centre and also as a lecturer at the English Language Institute of Modern Languages, University of Dhaka.
