News: International Visitor Leadership Program 2019
President of BWIT, Professor Dr. Lafifa Jamal, participated the International Visitor Leadership Program of U.S. Department of State which was held from October 27, 2019 to November 15, 2019 at 4 different states of United States of America. The multi-regional project was titled as “#HiddenNoMore: Empowering Women Leaders in STEM”. The program was sponsored by U.S. Department of State. 50 Women STEM leaders from 50 different countries participated the program. The goal of the project was to Explore policies of organizations and educational institutions that champion the interest of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); Provide opportunities for participants to network with professional counterparts at scientific academies, associations, universities, businesses and agencies across the United States; Share best practices for fostering “hidden talent” through initiatives that support the recruitment, training and development of women in STEM; and Examine public/private partnerships designed to accelerate student learning in STEM subjects, especially for girls from diverse backgrounds. In a discussion program at Washington DC, Dr. Jamal discussed the activities of BWIT and how BWIT encourages women in Bangladesh in technology entrepreneurship, embrace careers in technology and empower these women to grow, by providing technology awareness as well as education, leadership development, networking and mentoring. The activities of BWIT was appreciated by the participants of different countries. Some of the countries showed their interest to form a forum like BWIT in their respective countries.
