Bangladesh Women in Technology – BWIT, Bangladesh CTO Forum and Independent University (IUB) Seminar at Independent University Bangladesh, on Emerging ICT Careers and Prospect on 21 September 2013 at IUB Campus, Basundhara, Dhaka
Bangladesh Women in Technology – BWIT, Bangladesh CTO Forum and Independent University (IUB) organized a seminar entitled `Emerging ICT Careers and Prospect’ on Saturday, 21 September 2013 at its campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Luna Shamsuddoha, Chairman, Dohatec New Media and President of BWIT attended the programme as the Chief Guest while, Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, and Tapan Kanti Sarkar, President, CTO Forum as the special guests.
Tapan Kanti Sarkar, President of CTO Forum spoke on the immense prospect of ICT to the young students. He focused on demand and supply scenario of ICT sector especially in programming language, database, operating system, modeling and integrity skills, mobile apps platform and outsourcing skills. Lutfor Rahman, CIO, Airtel, spoke on `telecom perspective’. Debdulal Roy, Sr System Analyst, Bangladesh Bank, spoke on `ICT Career in Banking’. Dr Ijazul Haque, CTO, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC discussed on `IT Security’ and Kanon Kumar Roy, Commissioner of National Board of Revenue, Government of Bangladesh spoke on `ICT Career prospect in public sector in Bangladesh’. Prof. M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB delivered the welcome address and Dr Ali Shihab Sabbir, Dean, School of Engineering and Computer Science, IUB, gave formal vote of thanks.
Luna Shamsuddoha said it is very opportune established a relationship between BWIT, IUB and the CTO Forum. Chairman Rashed Chowdhury and the Vice Chancellor saw considerable value in a relationship and moved quickly to bring this to life. This will become a very prominent industry-university engagement that this will contribute hugely to Bangladesh.
She said this exercise will have a huge impact in students career and this experience will bring a great benefit. In career planning hearing an occasional inspirational speech from a scholar or an entrepreneur can leave huge impact. But having the opportunity for IUB to access the CTOs of Bangladesh will bring another powerful dimension. She said that this is a beginning to several such initiatives events that will be held in IUB on a regular basis. It is for the students to take advantage of this. Seminars and events on emerging technology, trends, know how, skills soft skills and opportunities in career path, also organize apps and programming contest for students to showcase their expertise.
The seminar ended with a question-answer session. Among other, IUB Trustees, members of the faculty and management a good number of students attended the seminar.
